FREE ADMISSION and Refreshments compliments of Hastings and Prince Edward ETFO (Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario) Status of Women Committee. (Festival a collaboration of ETFO, QUIS, SAC, Three Oaks, and QFA) Friday, April 30, 2010 7:00 pm Opening Words and Short Film 7:15 THE HURT LOCKER - At the 2010 Academy Awards, Kathryn Bigelow was the first woman ever to win an Oscar for Best Achievement in Directing. Her film, which also won Best Picture, Best Screenplay and three other Oscars, focuses on the perils of an explosives team in Iraq. The title is a colloquialism for being injured in an explosion, as in ‘they sent him to the hurt locker.’ The main character’s journey as a diffuser of bombs in a war zone raises awareness of a soldier’s life in the midst of constant peril.
